In 2024, Ukraine will see important changes in state support programs, in particular those aimed at helping children. The Ministry of Social Policy has outlined a series of steps that reflect the government’s desire to improve the well-being of its youngest citizens.
Increasing the living wage
From January 1, 2024, the subsistence minimum per person per month will increase from UAH 2,589 to UAH 2,920. This will have a positive impact on the volume of the provided state social assistance.
Strengthening support for different age groups
Children under the age of six will receive UAH 2,565, and children aged six to 18 will receive UAH 3,194. That is, much more than now — UAH 2,273 and UAH 2,842, respectively.
Saved child birth assistance
The payment of a one-time cash benefit upon the birth (or adoption) of a child remains unchanged and amounts to 41,280 hryvnias. It is partially paid in advance (10,320 hryvnias), and the rest — within 36 months.
“Baby package” or monetary compensation
Parents will be able to choose one-time in-kind assistance – “Baby Package” or its financial equivalent. Monetary compensation is equal to three times the subsistence minimum for children under the age of six, which currently amounts to UAH 6,816.
Help for IDP children
Each displaced child registered in the Unified Information Database will receive 3,000 hryvnias from the state. In 2024, there are no changes to this clause.
Among other things, a new type of social assistance will be introduced in 2024, which will be calculated on the basis of the basic income of the family, which will not depend on the subsistence minimum. These innovations testify to Ukraine’s proactive approach to adapting social protection programs to the changing needs of the population, especially the younger generation.
